1. Purpose & Guiding Principle

Bayview Village Tennis Club is committed to fostering a respectful, inclusive, safe, and enjoyable environment for all members, guests, staff, and tennis professionals.

Tennis is competitive. Community is not.

Every individual at BVTC is expected to conduct themselves with integrity, sportsmanship, and respect, on and off the court.

2. Zero-Tolerance Policy on Abuse

BVTC enforces a strict zero-tolerance policy toward any form of abusive behaviour.

The following will not be tolerated under any circumstances:

Verbal abuse (yelling, insults, intimidation, threats).

Physical aggression or threatening body language.

Harassment (including repeated unwanted communication or conduct).

Discrimination or hateful conduct based on race, gender, age, ability, religion, sexual orientation, or any protected ground.

Bullying, whether direct or indirect (including exclusionary behaviour or persistent negativity).

Abuse directed at staff, tennis professionals, volunteers, or other members.

Any instance of abusive behaviour may result in immediate disciplinary action, including suspension or termination of membership without warning.

3. Respect for Staff, Tennis Professionals, and Volunteers

BVTC operates through the dedication of staff, club professionals, and volunteers.

Members and guests must:

Treat all staff and professionals with respect and professionalism at all times.

Follow the direction from staff regarding court usage, scheduling, and club operations.

Understand that tennis programming is operated independently by the club professionals.

Disrespect, hostility, or undermining behaviour toward staff or professionals will not be tolerated.

4. Member Conduct & Sportsmanship

All members are expected to:

Demonstrate good sportsmanship, win or lose.

Use appropriate language at all times.

Resolve disputes calmly and respectfully.

Accept line calls and match outcomes without confrontation.

Refrain from coaching or interfering unless explicitly permitted.

Throwing racquets, hitting balls in anger, or creating a hostile playing environment is strictly prohibited.

5. Inclusive & Welcoming Environment

BVTC prides itself on being a welcoming space for players of all levels and backgrounds.

Members must:

Be inclusive and respectful to all players.

Avoid cliques, exclusionary conduct, or gatekeeping behaviour.

Support a culture where new members and guests feel comfortable participating.

This is a community, not a closed circle.

6. Guest Responsibility

Members are fully responsible for their guests' conduct.

Any violation of this Code by a guest will be treated as a violation by the hosting member.

7. Digital & Off-Court Conduct

This Code applies both on and off club premises, including:

Email communications.

Social media interactions.

Messaging platforms or group chats related to the club.

Online hostility, harassment, or reputational harm toward the club or its community will be addressed as seriously as in-person behaviour.

8. Alcohol & Prohibited Substances

BVTC operates under strict municipal and regulatory requirements that prohibit the possession or consumption of alcohol on club premises at all times.

Alcohol is not permitted anywhere on club grounds, including courts, common areas, and surrounding facilities.

This applies to all members, guests, and visitors without exception.

Violation of this policy may result in:

Immediate removal from the premises.

Suspension or termination of membership.

Further action, as required to protect the club’s operating permit.

Members are expected to understand that non-compliance places the club’s permit and ability to operate at risk. As such, this rule will be enforced firmly and without exception.

9. Reporting & Enforcement

BVTC takes all concerns seriously.

Complaints may be reported to the Board or designated club leadership.

All reports will be reviewed confidentially and fairly.

The club reserves the right to investigate and take action at its discretion.

10. Disciplinary Action

Failure to comply with this Code may result in:

Verbal or written warnings.

Temporary suspension of club privileges.

Removal from programs or teams.

Termination of membership without refund.

Severe violations, particularly involving abuse, may result in immediate expulsion.

11. Final Word

BVTC is more than courts and competition; it is a shared space built on respect.

If you cannot treat others with respect, you cannot be part of this club.

Stay safe and in good health,
BVTC Board of Directors
